My Background and Coaching Philosophy

I have always been passionate about truth and fairness, the quality of the legal profession and helping other lawyers develop their careers. In other words, I was born to be a lawyer coach.

  • B.A. (1986) and J.D. (1989) from the University of Michigan
  • C.P.C.C. (2009) from The Coaches Training Institute
  • Officer of the State Bar of Michigan’s Law Practice Management & Legal Administrators Section
  • Officer of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association
  • Officer of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan Wayne Region, State committee chair and Washtenaw Region committee chair
  • State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly
I practiced law for nearly 20 years at Clark Hill PLC, a large Michigan firm based in Detroit. As a partner and business litigator, I worked with a wide range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to medium and smaller sized businesses, families and individuals. Working with in-house counsel, co-counsel, executives, business owners and others, I learned and understand the challenges and concerns professionals face on a daily basis. I also learned and understand people’s desire to be their best self at work and at home.

I had been involved in informal mentoring and coaching with my colleagues and other friends since I received my law degree. As a partner and former recruiting committee chair, I knew the importance of building on individual lawyers’ strengths to help them, our clients and our firm. Eventually I realized that my professional development role was more stimulating, challenging and professionally fulfilling than nearly 20 years of litigating contract disputes. Seeing a need for this resource in the legal profession, I decided to formally combine my skills, experience and passion to help other lawyers achieve their career management, business development and other professional and personal goals.

I have coached lawyers of all types including partners, associates, solos, judges, in-house counsel, recent graduates and even law students. Together we make lasting changes that enhance or expand that person’s practice or career.

I believe a business development and career management coach is a competitive advantage. Coaching helps lawyers clarify and reach their goals by brainstorming, focusing and taking steps using what works for the individual rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

I am very pleased to do work that combines my experience as a lawyer, my professional coach training and my passions to make a significant difference in the lives of my clients and in the legal profession.
